Usage indications
Zyloprim is a medication used to treat goat. It is used in patients with increased uric acid content in the blood or urine as a result of some cancer chemotherapy types. It is sometimes used in the treatment of calcium oxalate kidney stones and escalated content of uric acid in the urine. It may also be prescribed by your doctor for other ailments.
Mode of application
Take Zyloprim upon your doctor’s prescription. Accurate intake dose instructions can be found on the label of the drug.
Take Zyloprim orally after food to avoid stomach disorders. While taking Zyloprim, it is advised to drink a lot of additional fluids. Consult your doctor for recommendations. Do not withhold from taking Zyloprim even if you feel in good health. Avoid missing any doses.
In case you miss an intake time, seek to take the drug immediately. If the following intake time is near, leave the missed dose out and follow your regular intake plan. Do not take a double dose at once.
Mechanism of action
Zyloprim is a xanthine oxidase inhibitor working to decrease the production of uric acid in a body.
Uric acid is a decay product of purines in foods. Uric acid is crystallized in the body tissues which results in the inflammation of gout. High blood uric acid levels can also be the reason of kidney disease and stones. Allopurinol is active in averting uric acid kidney stones and staving off recurrent bouts of podagric arthritis.
Missed Doses
In case you miss an intake time, seek to take the drug immediately. If the following intake time is near, leave the missed dose out and follow your regular intake plan. Do not take a double dose at once.
Storage
Keep in storage at 15-25 degrees C (59-77 degrees F) in a dark place and protect from moisture.
Precautions
Do NOT use this medication, if you have allergy to any ingredient in Zyloprim.
Some medical conditions may be impacted by Zyloprim.
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, in particular:
- pregnancy, or planned pregnancy, or breast-feeding;
- taking any prescription or nonprescription drugs, herbal teas, or food supplements;
- allergies to drugs, foodstaffs, or other substances;
- kidney or liver disorders, heart disorders (e.g. congestive heart failure), bone marrow ailments, heavy blood pressure, or diabetes.
Some medicines may have reciprocal action with Zyloprim. Inform your health care provider of your taking any other medicines, in particular:
- Amoxicillin or ampicillin (increase the risk of skin eruption);
- Chlorpropamide (increases the risk of low glucose concentration in blood);
- Dicumarol or oral anticoagulants, e.g. warfarin (Zyloprim may increase the risk of bleeding);
- Thiazide di uretics, e.g., hydrochlorothiazide, or uricosurics, e.g., probenecid (may enforce Zyloprim 's side effects);
- cyclosporine or thiopurines, eg, azathioprine, mercaptopurine (Zyloprim may enforce the risk of their side effects).
Side Effects
Taking any medicine may result in side effects, but most people experience no or minor side effects. Inform your doctor of these most COMMON side effects if they seem persistent or bother you:
- Diarrhea; nausea.
Consult your doctor immediately about any of these SEVERE side effects:
- Strong allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; heavy breathing; tightness in chest; swollen mouth, face, lips, or tongue); blood in urine or painful urination; dark urine; fever, chills, or sore throat; irritated eyes; pain in joints; no appetite; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; stomach disorders; unexplained weight loss; unusual bruises or bleeding; unusual pain or weakness in muscles; yellowish skin or eyes.
