Usage indications
Erythromycin is used for the treatment of infections caused by some bacteria. It is also used for the prevention of bacterial endocarditis and rheumatism attacks. It can be used for other diseases treatment as well based on your doctor recommendations.
Application mode
Use Erythromycin in accordance with your doctor recommendations.
- Erythromycin is for inside intake during or after meal. Take it together with meal in case of stomach upset for stomach upset decrease.
- Take pill fully without chewing it.
- Grapefruit intake is not recommended during this drug intake.
- Erythromycin works better if taken every day at the same time.
- take full course of Erythromycin to get fully rid of infection.
Continue taking it even if you got better within several days.
Mechanism of action
Erythromycin is a macrolid antibiotic. Macrolid antibiotic slow down or kill sensitive bacteria at the account of reduction of the production of important proteins necessary for bacteria survival
Missed doses
Do not miss any erythromycin intake. During single miss of doze intake it is necessary to take the doze as soon as possible. If the time of missed doze intake corresponds to the time of next doze intake the drug intake should be missed. The double dosage is prohibited for intake.
Storage
Store erythromycin at room temperature of 68- 77 F degrees (20- 25 С degrees) and keep away from light and humidity, children and pets
Precautions
Do not take Erythromycin if:
- you are allergic to any of erythromycin component;
- you take astemizol, cyzapride, cyclosporine, diltiazem, dofetilide, spur alkaloids (ergotamine), AIDS inhibitors proteases (ritonavir), imidazole (ketoconazol), pimozid, QT prolonging agents (quinidine, sotalol), hinolones (cyprofloxacine), streptorgamines (quinupristine/dalphopristine), sumatripan or verapamil.
Contact your doctor immediately if any of the following relates to you.
Some medical preparations can interact with erythromycin. Inform your doctor or pharmaceutist on any of the following diseases or situations:
- pregnancy, plans to get pregnant or breast feeding
- the intake of any drugs sold with or without prescriptions, vegetable preparations or food add-ons
- allergy to drugs, products or other agents,
- diarrhea or intestinal infection
- liver or kidney diseases history, heart problems, quick or irregular heartbeat, myasthenia or blood disease
Some medical preparations can interact with erythromycin. Inform your doctor on the intake of any of the following drug:
- efavirenc or rifampicyn as they can decrease erythromycin efficiency
- arsenic, cymetidine, diltiazem, dofetilide, AIDS inhibitors proteases (ritonavir), imidazole (ketoconazol), pimozid, QT prolonging agents (quinidine, sotalol), hinolones (cyprofloxacine), streptorgamines (quinupristine/dalphopristine) or verapamil as they can cause heart toxicity or irregular heartbeat.
- anticoagulants (varafrine), aldosterone blockers (spironolactone), alfentanile, arsenic, astemizol, benzodiazepines (alprazolam), bromocryptine, busperon, carbamazepin, cyzaprid, clozapin, cortico steroids (hydrocortizon), cyclosporine, digitoxin, digoxyn, dizopiramid, spur alkaloids (ergotamin), phelodipin, H1 antagonists (dimedrol), GMG-КоА-reductases (lovastatin), imatinib, macrolid immune depressants (tacrolimus), meglitinideantidiabetics (repaglinid), midazolam, phosfodiestrazes of 5 type inhibitors (sildenafil), pimozid, QT prolonging agents (quinidine, sotalol), hinolones (cyprofloxacine), rifampizin, serotonin back capture inhibitors (fluoxetin), sumatripan, theophyllines, tricyclic antidepressants (amitriptiline), valproic acid, periwinkle alkaloids (vincristin), as the risk of side effects might increase during erythromycin intake
Side effects
Consult with your doctor in case if any of the aforementioned side effects persist or irritate:
- diarrhea, loss of appetite, vomiting, stomach pain, nausea.
Сontact your doctor immediately if any of the following serious side effects occur:
- heavy allergic reactions (rash, nettle rash, breathing difficulties, chest constraints, mouth, face, lips or tongue edema), bloody stool, irregular heartbeat, skin redness, blisters, heavy diarrhea, heavy stomach pain or spasms, skin or eyes yellowing.
