Usage indications

Tenormin is prescribed to the patients having high blood pressure (hypertension). It is also used for the treatment of chest pains (stenocardia) during heart ischemic disease. Tenormin is useful as well for slowing and regulating of tachycardia specific types. It is also used for the prevention of migraine and some tremor types treatment (inherited tremor).

Application mode

This drug should be taken before meal and sleep.

Drug class and mechanism of action

Tenormin is beta andrenergic blocker. Termormin blocks the action of sympathetic nerve system, part of vegetative nerve system. Sympathetic nerve system stimulates heart beat temp. By blocking the action of these nerves, Tenormin decreases heart beat frequency and is useful for heart beat abnormally quick temp. Tenormin decreases as well muscle contractions frequency and blood pressure level. Tenormin decreases the necessity of oxygen for heart muscle due to the decrease of heart beat frequency and the force of muscle contractions. Tenormin is useful for stenocardia treatment as it arises when heart oxygen supply is lower than the demand.

Missed doses

If you miss a dose of Tenormin then you may take it as soon as you remember and adjust the remaining doses accordingly. However, if it is nearly time for the next dose then you may skip this dose and continue with the regular dosage. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.

Overdose

Some of the typical symptoms of a Tenormin overdose include breathing problems, chest pain, fainting, pounding in the chest, seizures, severe dizziness, severe weakness, very slow heartbeat, wheezing. You may need to seek medical attention immediately.

Storage

Store drug at room temperature at tightly closed container.

Precautions

Do not take Tenormin if it was not Tenormin should be taken with a glass of water once a day at the same time. Do not stop taking the medication suddenly as it may worsen your condition. Continue to take the medication even if you feel fine as hypertension and diseases of a heart maybe a life long illness. Inform your surgeon if you take Tenormin, if you need to be operated.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity, sick sinus syndrome, sinus bradycardia (rate slower than 50 per minute), atrioventricular block (degree II and III), arterial hypotension, acute or chronic heart failure, peripheral blood flow disorders, breastfeeding. Cautiousness should be exercised in patients with diabetes, hypopotassemia, pulmonary emphysema, asthma, liver and kidney diseases pregnancy and with other conditions.

Possible side effects

Some of the common side effects of are cold fingers and toes, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, tiredness or weakness. Please contact your doctor if the symptoms persist or become bothersome.

Other severe side effects include allergic reactions (rash, hives, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue), blue fingernails, toenails, or palms, decreased sexual ability, fainting, mental or mood problems, persistent dizziness or lightheadedness, shortness of breath, sudden, unusual weight gain, swelling of hands, ankles, or feet, unusual bruising or bleeding, unusually slow heartbeat.
