Drug Uses
Alavert is an antihistamine that is used to relieve symptoms of seasonal allergies such as runny nose, sneezing, itchy, watery eyes or itching of the nose and throat. However, it may also be used for other conditions as recommended by your doctor.
How it is taken
The best way to take is as recommended by your doctor. The tablet is to be taken whole with a glass of water preferably with a meal.
Drug Class & Mechanism
Alavert is an antihistamine that blocks a substance called histamine in the body. This aids in reducing allergy symptoms like sneezing, runny nose etc.
Missed Dosage
If you miss a dose of Alavert then you may take it as soon as you remember and adjust the remaining doses accordingly. However, if it is nearly time for the next dose then you may skip this dose and continue with the regular dosage. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.
Storage
Store it at room temperature (between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) in an air tight container protecting it from direct exposure to light, heat and moisture. Keep away from pets and children.
Safety Information
You must not use Alavert if you are allergic to any ingredient in it.
It causes drowsiness and the effect may be aggravated with alcohol. So do not take alcohol or take more than what is recommended.
Alavert is not to be used by children who are younger than 2 years of age.
Alavert has sodium as an ingredient and people on a low sodium diet should maintain caution.
Alavert has a tendency to interfere with skin allergy tests and if you have one scheduled, then inform your doctor about it.
If you are pregnant or suspect that you are, then stop using Alavert. It is unknown whether Alavert is secreted in breast milk. Avoid breast feeding while using the drug.
Side Effects
Alavert may cause allergic reactions with symptoms like hives, itching, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. You may seek emergency medical help if any of these allergic reactions occur.
Severe side effects may include symptoms like a fast or uneven heart beat rate (palpitations), giddiness, jaundice, seizures or convulsions. Other less severe symptoms include headache, nervousness, tiredness, diarrhea, vision problems, nose bleeds or skin rashes. Contact your doctor immediately if you notice any of these side effects.
