Atarax is used for the treatment of agitation, for soothing before and after general anaesthesia, for the treatment of itch after several allergic diseases including nettle rash and contact dermatitis (toxic ivy). It can be used for other cases defined by the doctor.
Application mode
Use Atarax in accordance with doctor’s recommendations.
- Atarax is for oral intake together or without food. Take this drug with food to decrease stomach upset.
- Swallow Atarax fully. Do not break it or chew it before swallowing.

Drug class and mechanism of action

Storage

Precautions / warning
Do not use Atarax if:
- you are allergic to any of Atarax component;
- you take sodium oxybate (GHB);
- you are on the first pregnancy trimester.

- Sodium oxybate (GHB), as it might cause such side effects as sleep duration increase and breathing slow- down.
Side effects
All drugs can cause side effects. Most people do not encounter them or do not feel their influence. Consult your doctor in case if any of the following side effects persists or irritates:
- sleepiness, mouth dryness.
Contact your doctor immediately in case if any of the following side effects arise:
- heavy allergic reactions (rash, nettle rash, itch, breathing difficulties, chest constraints, mouth, face, lips or tongue edema), involuntary movements.
Additional information
Atarax can cause sleepiness. This effect might get worse if to take Atarax with alcohol or specific drugs. Use Atarax with cautiousness. Do not drive and do not perform other possible dangerous tasks until you know your reaction to Atarax. Avoid alcohol and other drugs intake prompting sleepiness (hypnotic, muscle relaxants) when using Atarax as they might incur additional side effects. Elderly people should be cautious during Atarax usage as the risk of side effects might increase.

Do not use Atarax if you are on pregnancy 1st trimester. Contact your doctor if you suspect of being pregnant. Atarax discharge with mother milk had not been studied. Do not do breast feeding during Atarax intake.
