Description
Effexor XR is of serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). It is used for treat major depressive disorder or generalized anxiety disorder treatment together with pain due to diabetic neuropathy and fibromyalgia.
Usage indications
Take Effexor XR with a glass of water during or after meal, with or without food. Do not cut, crush or chew this drug.
Do not increase this drug dosage and do not stop its intake without prior consultation with your doctor. Ask about exact dosage as well.
Missed doses
Take it as soon as possible if you missed its intake. If it happened during next dosage intake time take missed dose and then follow intake schedule. The intake of two pills in one day is prohibited.
Keeping
Keep this drug at room temperature of 68-77 F degrees (20-25 C degrees) away from the sources light and moisture, children and pets. Do not keep in the bathroom.
Warnings
Inform your doctor about your:
- allergy to Venlafaxine or other allergies.
- bipolar confusion, eye, liver or kidney diseases history.
Elderly people should be cautious when taking this drug as they can become more sensitive to its side effects.
during pregnancy this drug should be taken in case of necessity only.
Do not use this drug during pregnancy or plans to get pregnant as it is absorbed by the skin.
Precautions
Do not take Effexor XR if you are pregnant/nursing, child or hypersensitive to Venlafaxine.
Overdosage
Ask for urgent medical assistance at once you have taken an excessive amount of this drug. The overdosage symptoms are the following: chest pain, nausea, irregular heartbeat or fainting.
Side effects
The most widespread side effects: quick and irregular heartbeat, shivering, agitation, vision problems, nausea, fever, diarrhea, etc.
Serious allergy is less probable as most of the people do not encounter serious side effects when using this drug. Contact your doctor if you encountered any other serious side effects not specified here.
Interaction with other drugs
Inform your doctor or pharmacist about the intake of any of the following drugs or herbal add-ons:
- MAO inhibitors: Furazolidone, Isocarboxazid, Linezolid, Moclobemide Tranylcypromine, etc.
- Antiarrhythmic drugs: Propafenone, Quinidine, etc
- Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs): Citalopram, Dapoxetine, Fluoxetine, Fluvoxamine, Paroxetine, etc.
- Antipsychotics (also called neuroleptics): Fluphenazine, etc.
- H2-receptor antagonists: Cimetidine, Ranitidine, Famotidine, Nizatidine, etc.
