DRUG TITLE
Suprax (Cefixime)
APPLICATION
Suprax is a cephalosporin antibiotic which bactericidal effect made it useful for treatment of infectious diseases such as pharyngitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis, acute and chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, moderate otitis, non-severe infections of urogenital tract, gonococcal infection of the urethra and cervix, gonorrhea.
It is a broad-spectrum antibiotic active against different aerobic and anaerobic gram positive and gram negative organisms including Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Suprax is resistant to beta-lactamases. It is especially active against different streptococcus such as: S. pneumoniae, S. pyogenes, S. agalactiae, microorganisms of genus Haemophilus such as H. influenzae, H. parainfluenzae and others: Moraxella catarrhalis, Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Proteus vulgaris, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Klebsiella oxytoca, Pasteurella sp., Providencia, Salmonella, and others.
MODE OF APPLICATION
Use Suprax in accordance with the instructions of a physician. Follow the directions on the label.
Take Suprax inside during a meal or after it. If stomach upset occurs, take it with food to reduce stomach irritation.
To cure the infection completely, continue using Suprax full course, even if you feel better within a few days.
THE MECHANISM OF ACTION
Suprax is a cephalosporin antibiotic. It works by killing sensitive bacteria.
MISSED DOSE
If you miss a dose of Suprax, and you use it regularly, take it as soon as possible. Do not use 2 doses at once.
STORAGE
Store at room temperature away from moisture and sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES
DO NOT use Suprax, if:
- You are allergic to any ingredient in Suprax or other Cephalosporins (e.g., cephalexin)
- You will be introduced in a live typhoid vaccine
Contact your doctor immediately if any of these items apply to you.
Before using Suprax:
Some medicines may interact with Suprax. Tell your doctor if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following applies to you:
- if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breast-feeding;
- if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplements;
- if you have allergies to medicines, foods or other substances;
- if you have had a severe allergic reaction (e.g., severe rash, hives, difficulty breathing, dizziness) to penicillin (e.g., amoxicillin) or beta-lactam antibiotics (e.g., imipenem);
- if you have diarrhea, stomach or intestinal disease (e.g. inflammation), bleeding or blood clotting problems, liver problems, or poor nutrition;
- if you have a history of kidney problems.
Some medicines may interact with Suprax. Tell your doctor if you have any illness, especially if any of the following applies to you:
- you are taking anticoagulants (eg warfarin) or carbamazepine because the risk of their side effects may be increased in patients receiving Suprax;
- Living abdominal vaccine because their effectiveness may be reduced by taking Suprax.
Consult with your doctor before you start taking, stop or change the dose of any medicine.
SIDE EFFECTS
Consult your doctor if any of these most common side effects persist or become frequent:
- Diarrhea, gas, diarrhea, nausea, stomach pain or upset.
Contact your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur:
- Severe allergic reactions (rash, hives, itching, shortness of breath, chest tightness, swelling of the mouth, face, lips or tongue, unusual hoarseness), bloody stools, decreased urination, fever, chills, sore throat, red skin, blisters or peeling skin, seizures, severe diarrhea, severe nausea or vomiting, severe stomach pain or cramps unusual bruising or bleeding, vaginal discharge, itching, white patches in the mouth, yellowing skin or eyes.
