Requip (Ropinirole)
APPLICATION
This medication is used to treat Parkinson's disease. It helps replace the brain chemical called dopamine, which level is low in Parkinson's disease. It is also used to treat RLS (restless leg syndrome).
MODE OF APPLICATION
Take this medication as prescribed. Do not increase your dose or take it more often than directed. Do not stop taking this medication without doctor's approval. Stopping this medication suddenly may cause unwanted side effects. The dosage depends on your condition and the impact of side effects of this drug. In a few weeks medicines can take effect.
THE MECHANISM OF ACTION
Requip helps reduce the signs and symptoms of Parkinson's disease. Dopamine deficiency is characterized by a progressive effect on the muscles, tremor, and tiredness. Requip works by stimulating dopamine receptors in the brain, contributing to the improvement.
MISSED DOSE
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, but if it happened during the next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take 2 doses at once.
STORAGE
Store at controlled room temperature away from moisture and sunlight. Do not store in the bathroom.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES
Tell your doctor if you have:
- heart disease and cardiac arrhythmia (rhythm disturbance), hallucinations, confusion, difficulty walking, any allergies, kidney problems, liver disease, low blood pressure. To avoid dizziness when rising from a sitting or lying position, get up slowly. Be careful when performing tasks requiring mental alertness such as driving or using machinery. Do not drink alcohol because it may increase drowsiness and dizziness. This drug should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known whether this drug is allocated in breast milk. Consult your doctor before nourish.
SIDE EFFECTS
Nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, insomnia, constipation, unusual weakness, stomach upset and pain, headache or dry mouth. If these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor immediately. To reduce the dryness of the mouth, dissolve sugar candy or ice chips, chew gum, drink water. Tell your doctor if any of these side effects occur: hallucinations, difficulty in movement while walking, shortness of breath. Can also occur: confusion, restlessness, leg or foot swelling, fainting, seizures, chest pain, unusually fast or slow heartbeat, muscle pain, vision problems, fever, severe muscle stiffness, sudden irresistible urge to sleep. If you notice that other effects are not listed above, contact your doctor.
